Vol. 54, Nos. 1–2 (318–319) January–April, 2018
This double issue of The Orthodox Word features the life and works of Metropolitan Tryphon (Turkestanov) (1861–1934), a vicar bishop of the Moscow diocese during the first third of the twentieth century. Metropolitan Tryphon has become known among English-speaking Orthodox Christians as the author of the Akathist of Thanksgiving, “Glory to God for All Things,” a wonderful liturgical work inspired by deep gratitude for God's blessings to man, including the visible creation. Of a princely heritage, he was a man of great refinement and self-sacrifice, to the point of serving as a military chaplain on the front lines of World War I. This issue contains his biography by Nun Cornelia (Rees), selections from his works, and a beautiful translation of his Akathist.
Also in this issue is the continuation of selected letters by St. Ignatius Brianchaninov.
