Vol. 56, Nos. 1–2 (330–331) January–April, 2020
by Priest Georgi Maximov
This double issue of The Orthodox Word is almost completely dedicated to an article by Moscow priest Fr. Georgi Maximov on an ancient heresy that has resurfaced in recent times. Known today as “universal salvation,” this heresy holds that in the future age all things and everyone, including the devil and his demons, will be be saved. The idea was articulated by Origen and later came to be associated with his followers. It was condemned by the Fathers of the Fifth Ecumenical Council in 553, and by other Councils as well. Through an examination of relevant Scriptural, Patristic, and historical texts, Fr. Georgi masterfully overturns this heresy from numerous angles.
In addition, this issue includes the continuation of the translation of select letters of St. Ignatius Brianchaninov.
