This issue of The Orthodox Word features a translation from Church Slavonic of the Akathist service to the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, “The Unburnt Bush.” This icon was quite popular in 19th-century Russia, and was found in the icon corners of many believers, who prayed before it in times of danger from lightning strikes and forest fires. The Akathist is preceded by a brief history of the icon and of the service itself.
Also featured is the third part of the four-part life of New Hieromartyr Andronicus of Perm.
