This entire double issue of The Orthodox Word eatures the life of a Romanian elder, Fr. Proclu (Nicau), who reposed quite recently (in 2017). He was a disciple of the great Elder Cleopa (Ilie) and lived, not in a monastery, but as a hermit in a cell in his native village. After the end of Communism in Romania in 1989, people began to seek him out for counsel, and he became well known for his lofty spiritual life and wise guidance. This article is followed by a brief recollection of a spiritual daughter of his, Abbess Justina of Paltin-Petru Voda. These articles are followed by the Life of St. Gerasim of Boldino, a 16th-century Russian elder and founder of several monasteries in Western Russia. This is another chapter of the forthcoming volume 2 of The Northern Thebaid. Finally we present the continuation of the commentary of St. Nikodemos of Mount Athos on the Epistle of St. James.
